Passive FormsAuthentication

Jul 23, 2013 at 8:37 PM

I've played arround with the sources, and now I'm wondering why there is a Middleware for passive FormsAuthentication. For me it seems like, it would be possible, to use the passive components directly within ASP.NET, for instance within an action-method.

Thx and wishes,

That assumes you're running on Asp.Net. All of these middleware also work in self-host.

Hi Tratcher,

thx for your answer. But even in self-hosting-scenarios external authentication would be very easy, if there is just something like a Request- or Response-Object. So why don't just grab such Objects from OWIN to implement external authentication within an library, that is called within the application?

I'm sure, there is a good reason for this, but I just don't see it...

You're right, Forms is not a particularly difficult type of Auth. It was implemented here so higher level components could interact with it using the same pattern they use with the other auth modules.
